Easton Hospital Names Employee of the Year

EASTON, PA, February 6, 2017 — Easton Hospital has named Kelvin Lashley as 2016 Employee of the Year. This award is the highest honor bestowed on a hospital employee each year. Lashley was chosen from among six nominations for the honor.

“Health care requires a special blend of great people skills, tireless energy and the ability to work well under pressure,” says Karen Vadyak, Chief Nursing Officer. “People who work in health care share the common desire to help others and make a difference in people’s lives. It’s a pleasure to recognize our employees for their dedication to our patients and to providing outstanding care.”

Lashley has worked for Easton Hospital since 2009 as a nurse on the Telemetry Unit. He provides critical care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating each patient’s care needs.

To earn this honor, Lashley went beyond bedside care. A patient was discharged, but the person designated to pick up the patient had vehicle trouble, so the patient did not have a way to get home. The patient was offered a taxi voucher from the hospital and was extremely grateful. But the taxi service would only take patient to the outskirts of Easton, not into New Jersey where the patient lived. Kelvin reached into his own pocket and gave the patient the money so the patient could get home safely and be dropped off directly at the front door.

This action had Lashley nominated for and earn employee of the month. The story was also instrumental as his peers voted him employee of the year.

“Kelvin approaches everything with a “can-do” attitude,” says his supervisor, JoAnn Garrett. “He is a team player with his co-workers and is truly liked by the physicians. Kelvin’s patients love him because he takes the time to chat with them and makes them feel comfortable being in the hospital.”
